We are a territory of contrasts where the vineyards rest protected at the foot of the Montserrat mountain, an important symbol for Catalan history, spirituality and culture. In fact, it is the closest appellation of origin to this natural icon.
Located in a natural space protected by extreme beauty, between the mythical mountain ranges of Montserrat and the Serra de Castelltallat, the natural park of Sant Llorenç del Munt i l’Obac and the Montcau massif, where you can enjoy various wine tourism attractions following the DO Pla de Bages Wine Rute.
The starting point of this wine trail can be the monastery of Sant Benet de Bages, with vineyards documented since the 10th century and a large Gothic cellar. The DO Pla de Bages Wine Route includes wine tourism cultural experiences, activities, sports, bike rides or a “wine train”. The more adventurous can even discover the vineyards from a bird’s eye view in a balloon, ultralight or two-seater paraglider, contemplating the spectacular north face of Montserrat.
Exceptional wine heritage
Today we host great wines, many wine tourism proposals and a unique wine heritage in Europewhich includes the unique dry stone vats located next to the vineyards.
The dry stone tubs are the highlight of the various wine tourism attractions in the Pla de Bages Wine Region and
around 4,000 are preserved. They were constructions that allowed farmers to attend to the vineyards and store the harvested grapes when the farms were far enough away due to the large vineyards.
